Alderney Gaming Firm Penalized £1 Million

A gambling enterprise based in Alderney is set to contribute £1 million following a probe by the Gambling Commission which uncovered lapses in both social responsibility and anti-money laundering procedures.

Operating under the name Admiral Casino, Greentube Alderney Limited will direct the funds to socially-focused initiatives as part of an agreement reached with the commission.

This marks the company’s second encounter with regulatory repercussions, having previously disbursed £685,000 in 2021 due to similar shortcomings in social responsibility and money laundering protocols.

The director of enforcement at the commission, John Pierce, stated: “This situation developed from a subsequent compliance evaluation, which aimed to verify whether the operator remained committed to the corrective measures established from earlier regulatory interventions.”

He continued: “Although we observed substantial overall progress within the business, additional violations of regulations were still detected.”

“The company was promptly mandated to implement a comprehensive corrective strategy to address all identified deficiencies,” he further explained.

“It’s important for all operators to understand that recurring infractions of regulations intended to ensure gambling activities remain secure and devoid of criminal activities will result in even more rigorous enforcement measures.”

“Failure to adhere to anti-money laundering regulations is entirely unacceptable,” he emphasized, “Today’s measure underscores the severity of the breaches identified.”

“Our oversight of this operator will persist to guarantee their continual compliance with regulatory expectations,” he concluded.

The BBC has reached out to Greentube Alderney Limited for a statement.
